The Surrogacy Process

  • Upon onboarding, surrogates will have a phone interview and have their historical pregnancy and delivery records requested and reviewed to ensure there are no complications that would contraindicate a surrogate pregnancy.

Both surrogates and intended parents will have a background check ran.

This stage also includes finalizing the compensation package and match preferences.

  • We strive to allow transparency and autonomy through the matching process for both surrogates and intended parents. We will take into account all parties’ match preferences and fertility clinic requirements.

We will present profiles, and if both parties are interested, we will set up a coordinator-supported match call to see if it’s a good fit.

If you are coming to us with an independent match, we will still support in discussions to ensure all parties are aligned on the key match points.

  • We adhere to the highest standards of psychological and medical requirements set forth by the American Society for Reproductive Medicine. All surrogates will attend a comprehensive session with a licensed mental health professional where they will discuss mental health background/ risk level, motivation, and suitability. As an intended parent, you will also be required to meet with a mental health professional to ensure all parties are prepared for the process.

ITS will support in scheduling a surrogate’s medical screening appointment through the fertility clinic, which typically includes blood tests, ultrasound screenings, and drug tests of her and her partner. We assist with booking travel and coordinating the review of the screening results.

  • Both intended parents and surrogates are required to have individual, third-party legal representation to draft a gestational surrogacy agreement and establish legally binding parental rights prior to the birth of the baby. We will help refer you both to licensed, specialty reproductive law attorneys in the surrogate’s state of residence to ensure this process goes quickly and smoothly. Once the gestational surrogacy agreement is finalized, signed, and notarized by both parties, you will be cleared to move forward with the embryo transfer cycle.

Insurances will be put into place prior to embryo transfer to ensure all parties are protected against unexpected expense. These insurance policies include but are not limited to: private medical insurance, accidental death policies (which can cover both surrogates and babies), bedrest coverage, and loss of organ coverage. We work with the top insurance broker in the industry for the best policies and rates.

  • ITS will work closely with the IVF clinic and surrogate to ensure everyone is well-prepared and well-informed on the process.

To prepare the surrogate’s uterus for the embryo transfer, the medication protocol often includes injectable hormone medications. We will provide guidance and support through this process.

We will also book any necessary travel and hotel stays, and help facilitate any clinic-ordered bedrest following the transfer.

  • Intended parents and surrogates will be well-supported by the case manager throughout the pregnancy to ensure all goes smoothly. We will coordinate with the surrogate’s insurance company, local OBGYN, delivery hospital, and other providers to make sure surrogate and surrobabe are healthy and happy.

  • We will coordinate with both parties’ attorneys to ensure the parentage orders are completed in a timely manner. These documents will all be provided to the social work department at the surrogate’s delivery hospital to ensure all parties are prepared to welcome a surrogate birth.

We will also facilitate a birth plan between intended parents and surrogates that aligns with everyone’s preferences and needs.

Your case manager will be there to support all parties through the delivery to ensure everything goes smoothly.

  • ITS will continue the support past delivery so intended parents can focus on the special first moments with their baby, and surrogates can focus on recovery. We will ensure any medical bills are wrapped up, and facilitate the closure of the escrow account at the appropriate time.
